The following post is my own personal comments and opinions .
Terrorism and war are different form of expression of violence .
Violence can be categorized into national , organizational , individual violence ; criminal , social , police and military violence ; etc .
War is a national terrorism .
The art of war = art of violence = the art of terrorism .
Military warfare have many branch such as regular and irregular ; conventional and unconventional ; etc .
Terrorism , guerilla and special operation warfare are included in the irregular and unconventional branch of military warfare .
Terrorism and guerilla warfare are devised to let a weaker opponent defeat a stronger opponent whereas special operation warfare is devised for specialization and elitism for maximum effect for a special objective .
In a guerilla warfare , time is on the side of weaker opponent as the weaker opponent will exhaust and weaken the strength , asset and resources of the stronger opponent ; and develop and preserve strength , asset and resources of the weaker opponent such as by operational guerilla warfare such as by dispersion in stealth , concealed or camouflaged movement and deployment , and concentration in offensive and defensive operation and mobilization ; by hit and run , sabotage , attrition and ambush of stronger opponent ; by geographical guerilla warfare such as underground , caves , urban , rural , mountain and forest guerilla warfare ; by secretive , light , mobile , covert , creative , speedy , surprise and flexible attack ; by avoiding a decisive and major war with the stronger opponent ; by relative encirclement of stronger opponent piece by piece ; by concentrating relative strategic superiority as quantity or qualitative advantage to weaken and exhaust the stronger opponent piece by piece ; etc until the relative political , economic , military and strategic situation tilted in favor of the weaker opponent .
Then the weaker opponent may have became the stronger opponent to use conventional and regular warfare to win .
Time is on the side of weaker opponent in guerilla warfare because the weaker opponent and stronger opponent are constraint in the same geographical boundary .
Guerilla warfare can be employed by a stronger opponent to suit strategic requirement .
Guerilla warfare is coupled to ideological , nationalistic , religious , and ethnical factors as political propaganda and capital to gain political justification , support and foundation ; to seek domestic and international political allies and friends ; to seek domestic and international political , economic and military support , aid , assistance and intervention ; etc .
In the case of Chinese civil war , the communist guerilla warfare is coupled to communism as communist propaganda and capital to gain communist justification , support and foundation ; to seek domestic and international communist allies and friends ; to seek domestic and international political , economic and military support , aid , assistance and intervention ; etc
Since the political support and foundation of communist guerilla warfare is based on peasantry and worker , thus the communist guerilla warfare has the convenience of encircling the urban region from rural region , and infiltrating urban region .
After the civil war has subsided , it is reported that the nationalist also has nationalist guerilla in mainland .
In a terrorism warfare , time is on the side of the stronger opponent as after the stronger opponent recovered from the initial damage and shock , they will be able to mobilize and deploy their political , economic and military strength , asset and resources to weaken and exhaust the weaker opponent .
Thus , in terrorism warfare , the weaker opponent should cause maximum continuous and devastating damage from the initial wave of attack to the final wave of attack with secrecy , mobility , lightness , covert , creativity , speed , surprise and flexibility .
The weaker opponent through terrorism warfare is able to bypass the military defense to directly attack political , economic , military and strategic heart and arteries of the stronger opponent .
In terrorism warfare , the training and education for terrorism skill and knowledge will be provided by enemy training and education institute ; the finance and fund for terrorism operation will be raised from enemy society , and earned from enemy economy ; the weaponry , equipment , tools for terrorism operation will be hijacked from the enemy asset , assembled in enemy territory , acquired from enemy industry ; the terrorist will be recruited from enemy population ; etc .
Traditionally , the terrorist used land vehicle filled with explosive to bomb any ground target such as the US Oklahoma building bombing incident , and conduct special operation raid on target such as the Islamic terrorist raid on the Indian parliament , etc
In theory , any land vehicle such as for attacking any ground and coastal target , any air vehicle such as attacking any ground and air target and sea vehicle such as attacking for any sea and coastal target , can be used as tools for terrorism operation .
During the WW2 , the Japanese airforce used combat aircraft as human guided missile to attack the US combat ships .
Recently , the US accidentally used combat submarines as human guided torpedo to sink a Japanese trailer .
More recently , the Al Qaeda terrorist hijacked civilian planes as human guided missile to attack the world trade center .
In terrorism warfare , the weaker opponent may combined a chain , network and layer of explosive , nuclear , chemical , biological device to cause massive continuous and devastating damage of enemy country such as attacking nuclear power plant ; attacking explosive , nuclear , chemical , biological facilities ; or using miniaturized , simplified , lightweight , portable , disposable , hand held explosive , nuclear , chemical and biological device to attack a chain , network and layer of political , economic , military and strategic heart and arteries of enemy country .
In terrorism warfare , the weaker opponent may also assassinate the national leader or military leader of enemy country .
Ideally , terrorism warfare should be backed by actual political , economic and military capabilities .
Time is not on the side of weaker opponent in terrorism warfare because the weaker opponent and stronger opponent are not constraint in that same geographical boundary .
Like guerilla warfare , terrorism warfare which have more secrecy , lightness , mobility , covert , creativity , speed , surprise and flexibility , can be employed by a stronger opponent to suit strategic requirement .

In the case of Islamic holy war , the Islamic terrorism warfare is coupled to Islam as Islamic propaganda and capital to gain Islamic justification , support and foundation ; to seek domestic and international Islamic allies and friends ; to seek domestic and international political , economic and military support , aid , assistance and intervention ; etc
Since the political support and foundation of Islamic terrorism warfare is based on Islamist , thus the Islamic terrorism warfare has the convenience of recruiting holy war members , and infiltrating any countries with Islamist population .
Osama has demonstrated to the world that it is possible to bring the war to American mainland .
But Osama has lost because he is unable to cause massive continuous and devastating damage to American mainland , lost the strategic and military initiative , and change from the strategic and military offensive to defensive situation .
Osama has lost because the US brought the war back to Afghanistan , gain the strategic and military initiative , and change from the strategic and military defensive to offensive situation .
After the US brought the war back to Afghanistan with the Taliban in defensive situation without military and strategic initiative , the political and military pressure of the US combined with the anti-terrorism propaganda eroded the political support and foundation of the Taliban , and fermented division with Taliban while the Northern Alliance , the arch rival of Taliban , received the aid and assistance from India , Russia and Iran .
The aerial and heli-borne strike of the US weakened and exhausted the Taliban but the US is reluctant to conduct airborne and ground operation due to Soviet experience in Afghanistan of fighting a guerilla war using conventional military .
With the support of the US aerial strike , the Northern Alliance launched ground offensive against the Taliban and accelerated the collapse of Taliban .
The US through Northern Alliance , has used Afghan to fight Afghan and avoided a ground offensive to force its way into Afghanistan .
